Betty Sue Minter Carter, 59, of 2798 Brattons Run Road, Goshen, died Sunday, November 8, 2009 at her residence.
She was born on February 15, 1950 in Lexington, Virginia, a daughter of the late Charles Andrew Minter and Maudie Mae Smith Minter.
She graduated from Rockbridge High School in 1970 and married William F. Carter on January 29, 1972.
She was a member of the Goshen Baptist Church.
"Sissy", to her family, was an accomplished life of the party. She enjoyed laughing and trying to make other people laugh. She loved her family with all her very giving heart. She spent many a day fishing and enjoying the company of friends and family. She was an excellent cook, and a collector of Elvis memorabilia. She was a hard worker, a loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother, but most of all she was honest in what she believed and wasn't afraid to say it.
In addition to her husband, William F. Carter, she is survived by a son, Andrew W. Carter and wife, Ruth; and a granddaughter, Lakkin Micaela Carter, all of Goshen; a grandson, Dustin B. Hupman, of Williamsville; three brothers, Lee Minter of Lexington, Joe Minter of Swoope, and twin, Billy Minter of Goshen; two sisters, Barbara Knick, and Daris Ayers, both of Goshen.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by a brother, Charles A. Minter, Jr.
A funeral service will be conducted on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Scott Reese officiating. Interment will follow in Brattons Run Cemetery in Goshen. The family will receive friends on Wednesday afternoon from 12:30 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 2798 Brattons Run Rd, Goshen. Pallbearers will be Joey Ayers, Billy Minter, Bobby Bryant, Mike Knick, Charles Minter, Quentin Fridley, Lee Minter, Jr. and Dennis Fridley. Honorary Pallbearers will be friends attending the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Goshen Baptist Church, Goshen, VA or to the Goshen First Aid Crew, Goshen, VA.
Arrangements are being handled by the Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia.
