Vesuvius To Celebrate Heritage Day October 11th Vendors, Crafters, Historical Displays, Music, Pig Roast, And VFW Cakewalk   The Vesuvius Community Association is once again sponsoring the annual Vesuvius Heritage Day, an event scheduled this Saturday, October 11, throughout the entire village on Route 56 in Northern Rockbridge County. Events are scheduled to get underway around 8 a.m. with a Pancake Breakfast sponsored by the Vesuvius Baptist Youth Group at the Church. Vendors and crafters will be set up throughout the Church parking lot and exhibitors are welcome to set up with tables being provided by the Montebello Fire Department. This would be a wonderful opportunity to have that end-of-the-season yardsale. The Irish Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church will also be set up between the Church and the Community Building with plenty of ham biscuits and more for breakfast and lunch. The Vesuvius Community Building will feature historical displays with a Pig Roast planned at 11:30 am. The dinner features hand-pulled smoked pork, roll, cole slaw, baked beans and a soft drink. At 6 PM the Steeles Tavern Chapter of the VFW will sponsor their annual fundraising cakewalk with music and food. Donations of cakes are requested and can be left at the Building throughout the day. Children's face painting will be available at 2:00 and 4:00 pm at Granny's Attic. Gerties Country Store and Deli presents Music and a Chicken BBQ by the Raphine Fire Department at Noon and yardsales, Bake Sales and events will be held throughout the area. The Community Association, a non-profit group of citizens dedicated to improving the community, urges any vendors or exhibitors to join in the festivities at no entry fee. The vendors are not a part of the fund raising activities but encourages the support that is given to the non-profit organizations, churches and emergency personnel. In the wake of the St. Mary's Fire in March of this year, Vesuvius is witnessing a most equisite Fall leaf color and the community invites everyone out to enjoy it.
