Renovations Planned at DSLCC Main Campus

Planning is underway for more building renovations on the Dabney S. Lancaster Community College main campus in Clifton Forge, according to DSLCC President Dr. Richard R. Teaff.

Funding secured through a bond issue approved by the state legislature will be used to remodel Warren Hall and the remaining section of Scott Hall. The upcoming project, totaling $5 million, will impact areas that house student learning resources and technical services.

DSLCC officials met recently with two representatives of Clark-Nexsen, the architecture and engineering firm overseeing the project: Associate and Senior Architect David J. Moniot of the firm’s Roanoke office, and Robert T. Gunn of Charlotte, NC, a principal with the firm. Also attending the meeting was X. Tong Wang of Richmond, the Virginia Community College System’s Facilities Design and Construction Manager.

Over the past few years, several projects have been completed on the main campus, resulting in updates to the first and second floors of Backels Hall, new uses for the central and lower sections of Scott Hall, the addition of McCarthy Hall for continuing education and workforce services, upgrades to Moomaw Center, a new maintenance building, and a new sawmill constructed to house an industry-standard thin-kerf saw for the forestry technology program.

“With the major projects completed in recent years and the next one soon to come on-line, the entire campus will have been upgraded and expanded with new buildings and redesigned spaces,” commented Dr. Teaff. “ We are pleased to be able to complete these upgrades for the benefit of our students, who may now enjoy using the latest technologies in outstanding facilities that enhance the learning experience.”
