60th Season At Hull's Drive-In Opens March 27th
Join In The Opening Parade On Saturday, March 28th

Rockbridge County's very own historic treasure, Hull's Drive-in Theatre, will open for its 60th season on Friday, March 27th with BOLT and Quantum of Solace shown on the big outdoor screen under the stars.

On Saturday, March 28th, join in the opening weekend car parade from Lexington to Hull's and enjoy a traditional drive-in dinner of Hull's famous freshly made hamburgers, chili dogs, BBQ, french fries, sno-cones, and popcorn with real butter. As usual, families are welcome to snuggle up in blankets and chairs in front of their cars to view the movie in the fresh air or watch from their cars with sound provided through traditional speakers or FM radio.

The featured films are “BOLT,” rated PG, showing first followed by the most recent film in the 007 series, “Quantum of Solace,” rated PG-13 showing second. The order of the movies will be reversed on Sunday evening. The gate will open at 7 p.m.

Ticket prices for 2009 are just $6.00 for those 12 years old and up while children 11 and under will be admitted at no charge.

“The 2009 admission prices again position Hull’s as the most affordable drive-in theatre, and possibly the most affordable movie venue of any kind for a family night out, in all of Virginia” said Marketing Committee chairperson, Win Bottomly. “There is always pressure to raise prices, but we saw that family finances are facing some tough challenges this year so we decided we should help out a little by continuing our free admission for the younger kids” he said. “The main thing that allows us to keep our admission rates so affordable is the low overhead cost made possible by our wonderful volunteer staff and our community sponsors.”

The annual Hull’s Opening Weekend Parade will be held on Saturday, March 28 with viewers encouraged to come watch at 5:30 p.m. on North Main Street in Lexington or join in the parade by by lining up at Maury Middle School starting at 4:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles, but decoration is not required to join the parade and help to celebrate the opening of Hull’s.

The first 2009 Hull’s Flea Market will be held at the drive-in on Saturday, March 28 from 8 a.m to 2 p.m. No reservations are required for those wanting to rent a space. The flea market always presents a great opportunity to have some fun, clean out the garage and turn old “treasures” into spending money.

Opening in 1950, Hull’s Drive-In is located five minutes north of Lexington on Route 11. It is the nation’s only not-for-profit, community owned drive-in theatre. USA Today has called Hull’s “One of America’s ten great places to cuddle!”
