8th Annual Virginia Southern Gospel Jubilee
|
| The Pentecostal Outreach Church in Buena Vista will be sponsoring its 8th Annual Virginia Southern Gospel Jubilee this week on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; July 9, 10, and 11 in Glen Maury Park; 10th Street; Buena Vista. Starting times for the event will be 6:00 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Professional Southern Gospel singing groups from various parts of the country along with some local talent will be performing each evening. The event is free to the general public but a free-will offering will be received each evening.
For the past eight years, each department of The Pentecostal Outreach Church has helped to raise the finances for this community event. The attendance continues to increase each year. Hundreds of people join together in praise and worship beneath the multi-purpose shelter in the park. Rain or shine, the event will take place. Food concessions and camp parking will be available.
The pastor of the local church, Larry Clark, says that one of the goals for sponsoring the annual event is so that the local church can unite people of all ages, races, colors, creeds, doctrines and denominations under one roof to give glory and honor unto the Lord Jesus Christ. Christian song writers, music award winners, and professional Southern Gospel singing groups who have top-hit songs on the Christian Music Charts, along with some local talent, will be performing each night at the free event. There are no guest speakers, just singing and music.
The line-up for this year's gospel singers are as follows: On Thursday, July 9; Mike and Kelly Bowling (Hendersonville, Tn.), Brenda Cornett Braswell (Smithfield, Tn.) and Restoration (Barboursville, Va.) will perform. Friday, July 10; Gail Slayton (Glasgow, Va.); The Dills (Jackson, Tn.); and Soul'd Out Quartet (Georgetown, Ohio) will take the stage. To close the event on Saturday, July 10; The Freemans (Hendersonville, Tn.); The Oxendines (Shannon, N.C.); The Locklears (Shannon, N.C.); and The Pentecostal Outreach Church Choir will be singing.
The public is invited to attend this free event. It is recommended that everyone bring a lawn chair for comfortable seating. For more information, contact Pastor Larry Clark 261-2556 or go to the Jubilee's web-site at www.VaSouthernGospelJubilee.com to find out more about the event.
