August 2009 is the 60th year since Hull's Drive-In first opened on Rte. 11, bringing outdoor, under-the-sky, movies to Rockbridge County residents. This year also celebrates another milestone for the popular theater - it has been 10 years since the Hull's Angels formed and saved the drive-in, running it as a community-owned non-profit so families can continue to enjoy an affordable night at the movies.

To celebrate, the Drive-in will hold a Birthday Bash this weekend, August 7-9 with activities planned each evening.

On Friday, August 7th is Nostalgia Night and will include a Classic Car Cruise-In and live music by Dorsey Hostetter and his band. The first 50 entries will receive a special commemorative Dash Plaque and movie goers are urged to come in costume for a 50's costume contest.

Saturday, August 8th is Reunion Night. There will be a special dinner before the movie for all former employees of the drive-in and birthday cake for moviegoers as long as it lasts. And what a treat: Ice Age, Dawn of the Dinosaurs (PG) and Night at the Museum, Battle of the Smithsonian (PG) will be the movies that weekend. If you are a former employee of the drive-in and you haven't yet received an invitation, please call the drive-in (463-2621) and leave a message with your name and phone number so we can contact you.

Also on Saturday there will be lots of games and contests for everyone: think hula hoops, limbo, and lots of colorful balloons for the kids.

Hull's will wrap up the Birthday Bash Weekend on Sunday, August 9th with the ever-popular Roll Back Night, where admission is just $10.00 per car load and popcorn and hot dogs are only 25 cents.

It has taken a lot of work from a lot of people to save the drive-in and keep it going. We couldn't have done it without the generous donations of time and money from people in our community and around the globe. We hope to keep this community treasure going for a very long time.
