|Mohawk To Create 75 Jobs In Glasgow|
Calhoun, GA (July 31, 2009) - Mohawk Industries has announced plans to realign its commercial carpet manufacturing operations. As a result, approximately 75 manufacturing and logistics jobs at Mohawk's Laurens Park facility in East Dublin, Ga, will be relocated to Mohawk's Glasgow, Virginia facility. Other positions at the Laurens Park facility will be reassigned to the company's existing northwest Georgia operations and to North and South Carolina.
To ensure continuation of operations, the reallocation process will be staggered. The entire realignment will be completed by April 2010.
Mohawk will assist individuals at the Laurens Park facility during the transition period, offering available job opportunities at other company facilities as well as working with the local offices of the Georgia Department of Labor to facilitate job fairs with local employers and employment agencies.
"The economy forces companies to make difficult but necessary business decisions," said Jerry Hendrix, Mohawk's Senior Director of Human Resources - Manufacturing. "This operational restructuring is driven by a need to more efficiently deliver goods for our customers in a very competitive market. The men and women at Laurens Park have been outstanding employees, and my heart goes out to them."
Hendrix stated that between summer 2009 and spring 2010, Mohawk would gradually transition jobs from East Dublin to Glasgow. He said that the jobs would include positions in yarn, tufting and pad.
"I want to emphasize that the jobs at the Laurens Park facility are not lost," said Hendrix. "We are not eliminating jobs, we are reallocating production to other facilities and, as a result, jobs will be created in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and northwest Georgia."
"Mohawk's realignment of its commercial operations more effectively balances production with evolving customer needs and further strengthens the company's competitiveness," said Joey Faircloth, Mohawk's Vice President of Manufacturing. "Mohawk continues to explore many strategies to retain its industry-leading position while maximizing the value of its operational assets."
Faircloth added that he empathized with the men and women at Laurens Park whose positions will be reassigned. He noted that they were exceptional employees who had continually delivered successfully for the company, but that the planned realignment was designed to strengthen the company's commercial operations and offer superior value and service to customers.
"Production capacity must be aligned with customer demand in order for any organization to remain competitive," Faircloth said. "The ongoing recession has significantly impacted commercial building choices. We must be responsive to the evolving needs of our customers and, by shifting manufacturing function from Laurens Park to other locations, we are using our existing resources to deliver the quality and service that our customers expect."
