First Brethren Homecoming & Concert

First Brethren Church in Buena Vista will have their annual Homecoming on Sunday, October 11, 2008.
The Homecoming Worship Celebration begins at 10:30 a.m. A potluck fellowship dinner follows at 12:30 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. During the service an Infant Nursery, Toddler Church and Children’s Church will be provided.
Rev. Jon Cosgrove, a former Youth Pastor at First Brethren will be the guest speaker. Cosgrove is now the Pastor of Youth Ministries at Reading Evangelical Free Church in Reading, Pennsylvania,
Special guest for the service will be David Musselman, a concert pianist from Forest, Virginia. Musselman plays a wide variety of music and has played in churches, colleges, and public functions in all fifty states and in many parts of the world.
The church’s pastor, Christian Becker, is enthusiastic about the service. “We invite folks in the community to come and enjoy a good old-fashioned Homecoming!”
“And speaking of Homecoming,” Becker added, “we hope that former attendees, neighbors in the community, and folks looking for a church will come this Sunday as our guests. There will be plenty of good food and a wonderful time of fellowship for all who attend.”
With this Homecoming, First Brethren Church celebrates 119 years of service in Buena Vista. Founded in 1890, it is part of the Fellowship of Grace Brethren Churches.
“Grace Brethren Churches are united by their worship of Jesus Christ and a belief in the Bible as the complete Word of God,” noted Becker. “Our commitment is to serve God and others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.”
Becker recently completed ten years of ministry with the church. The church offers Sunday School classes for every age and has an active children's and youth program.
Due to the Homecoming celebration there will be no evening service on October 11.
First Brethren Church is located in Buena Vista at 100 E 29th Street (U.S. 60 E). Assisted listening devices are available and the church is handicapped accessible. For information call 540-261-6425.
