| The Rockbridge Community Symphony Orchestra, which is sponsored by Fine Arts in Rockbridge and directed by Mark Taylor, will present a Fall concert at Lexington Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 7:30 p.m.
The first half of the concert will begin with the second movement (Larghetto) of Beethoven’s Second Symphony in D Major. The string players in the orchestra will then be featured in Albinoni’s Adagio for Strings. The first half will conclude with a musical tribute to Halloween, namely Moussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain.
The second half of the program will commence with another movement of a second symphony, namely the first movement of Howard Hanson’s Romantic Symphony. The program will conclude with A Tribute to Henry Mancini, which includes Baby Elephant Walk, The Pink Panther, and the main themes from Charade, Days of Wine and Roses, and Peter Gunn.
The orchestra welcomes as new members this year Pieter DeHart, a tuba player who is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Virginia Military Institute, and Naaman Mehta, a flutist who is a junior at Rockbridge County High School.
Tickets for the concert are $8 for the general public and $5 for students. Tickets are available at Books & Company, from any orchestra member, and at the door. This concert is generously sponsored by Kendal at Lexington.
