Living Waters 5K Race Held

Sunshine held off the rain for the first Living Waters 5K, which was held Saturday, October 31 at Jordan’s Point. A new course record of 17:20 was set by Paul Low, who competed in the 30-39 age group. The out-and-back course, laid out by David Howison to encourage local running events, circles the island at Jordan’s Point, then follows Woods Creek Trail to Denny Circle, around the W&L Law School to nearly the Liberty Hall ruins, and then returns to Jordan’s Point.

Living Waters for the World installs water purification systems in places of need. In May 2009, a team representing the Maury River Mission Community installed a system in Guatemala, and the funds raised in the 5K race will be used to help fund a return trip in December to check on the operation of the system and continue public health education programs. Cornerstone Bank was a co-sponsor of the event.
