Business Leader to Give Roberts Lecture

 
LEXINGTON, Va. (Nov. 4, 2009) - Stephen F. Millard, managing director of Pathfinder Partners LLC, will present the John W. and Jane M. Roberts Institute Lecture in Free Enterprise at Virginia Military Institute on Nov. 16.

The lecture begins at 11 a.m. and will be held in Gillis Theater in Marshall Hall. It is free and open to the public. The topic of the lecture is “Starting High Technology Companies (Fables and Facts).â€

Millard is an entrepreneur based in the Silicon Valley of California and is co-founder of several major companies. Three of these companies achieved peak market valuations of over $1 billion. As an investor in Silicon Valley, Millard is a limited partner in numerous venture capital funds and an adviser to other funds. He is also a member of the Silicon Valley Band of Angels, which invests in early-stage companies.

He was appointed as a distinguished visiting fellow and member of the board of visitors of the National Defense University. Other board positions he holds include the National Defense University Foundation; the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania; the School of Public Policy at the University of California at Berkeley; and the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.

The John M. and Jane W. Roberts American Free Enterprise Program was established in VMI’s Department of Economics and Business in 1993. This program is made possible because of the support of the Roberts, founders of the Solite Corporation. In 1997, the Roberts established the Roberts Free Enterprise Fund, which created a lecture series to bring prominent American business and academic leaders to VMI to speak to the Corps of Cadets and to the public.
