Consider Scheduling Dec. 19 As A Fun, Half Workday AN EDITORIAL By Jerry E. Clark   Let us suggest a nice beginning to your Saturday, December 19th this year: come to the Virginia Horse Center and work with the many volunteers on the Rockbridge Area Christmas Basket Program. How about some logic to support this suggestion? OK, that’s pretty easy... • The packing effort needs to be done by about noon, so if you show up at 8 a.m. that means a commitment of only about 4 hours. • Those who do show up have been (at least in our experience) full of good, friendly Christmas cheer. The line moves quickly and it is a very good way to spend some time talking with friends and doing a good deed at the same time. • Your support and time is very much needed. Support with even a modest financial contribution means that a future family will be served. 100% of the money donated is used for the program. There is no “payroll” cost. You may send that donation today to Rockbridge Area Christimas Basket Program, P. O. Box 1030, Lexington, VA. 24450. (If you’re like us, it would be nice if you could stop reading this editorial right now and write that check so you won’t forget to do so!) • Those organizations which are not currently involved in the program can easily become a part of it. How so? Come to the November 30 organizational meeting at the Lexington Presbyterian Church at 7:30 p.m. • Finally: consider the effect of literally hundreds of people working to serve 2,700 others with needs. This isn’t a government financed program, this is a privately-run function that is both well-managed and well-respected throughout the region. This is the way many similar needs should be handled. May we suggest wearing a Santa hat, snowflake sweater or decorative boots when you come so that we can photograph you in your Christmas getup?
