Mom's Club Donates Picnic Table For Boxerwood Play Trail
Playgroups Are Regular Visitors

Boxerwood’s Play Trail has become an increasingly popular destination for local families with very young children, especially for several play groups organized by the Mom’s Club of Lexington, a support network for 48 at-home mothers and their young children. These Play Trail “regulars” spend at least one morning a week making pies in the Mud Kitchen, tunneling through Tiny House Mountain, digging to China, floating leaves in Dale’s Creek, climbing into a giant nest and building dinosaurs in the Bone Yard—all part of this unique play space in nature.

Snacks and picnic lunches are ubiquitous to club outings, but as MOMS Clubbers discovered, the large picnic table provided by Boxerwood was not quite large enough to accommodate their play groups. And so, members voted to present Boxerwood with a second picnic table. They did so in time for the club’s annual fall picnic held last month on—of course—the Play Trail.

“We use the Play Trail so much,” explained Social Chair, Erica Gantert, “and we want other people to be able to enjoy it the way we do. An extra picnic table means more kids and families can be here together.”

The MOMS Club of Lexington is a local chapter of the international MOMS Club, a non-profit organization providing support, friendship, fun activities, and informative meetings for mothers who have chosen to stay home to raise their children, including moms who work from home or work part-time. Activities are mainly held during the day, when mothers and their children need companionship. The club also has special events and community service projects throughout the year. Mothers interested in learning more about membership and activities can visit the club’s new website: http://sites.google.com/site/momscluboflexingtonva/home.

Boxerwood Nature Center & Woodland Garden is located at 963 Ross Road in Lexington. The Boxerwood Play Trail is open to the public free of charge year-round, every day of the week, from dawn till dusk. Directions are available on the Boxerwood webpage: www.boxerwood.org.
