Retail Promotions Committee sets 2010 Special Event dates

At a recent Retail Promotions Committee Meeting, chaired by Siobhan Lomax, the group set dates for upcoming downtown events.

Please mark your calendar for these dates:

April 10          Scot Irish Festival, Maury River Middle School, Lexington VA

The festival starts with a parade and has attractions throughout the day. Including Highland game demonstrations, living history presentations, vintage cars, music, entertainment, food and vendors that represent the culture and its importance to the Shenandoah Valley

April 23 &24          Annual Spring Sidewalk Sale, Downtown Lexington

It’s a fun two-day event that transforms downtown into an open air market and creates energy in the air. The Sidewalk Sale is one of the largest retail promotions of the year and gives merchants the opportunity to move “out of season” merchandise and/or discontinued items at a bargain price. And we all love a bargain!

July 3               Annual Fourth of July Children’s Bicycle Parade, Downtown Lexington

The Children’s Bike Parade is a Fourth of July favorite for young and old. Children are invited to decorate their bikes, trikes, scooters, and wagons in patriotic colors and then parade down Main Street. Decorating begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Rockbridge Regional Library, where each child will be given a bag of decorations. Then, at 11am, Uncle Sam leads the parade to the W&L Corral where hot dogs, watermelon, and beverages are served.

August 20 & 21     Annual Summer Sidewalk Sale, Downtown Lexington

It’s a fun two-day event that transforms downtown into an open air market and creates energy in the air. The Sidewalk Sale is one of the largest retail promotions of the year and gives merchants the opportunity to move “out of season” merchandise and/or discontinued items at a bargain price.
