Country Friends Celebrates 20 Years Of Music

Local band "Country Friends" has been playing Country/Gospel music now for 20 years. They have never turned down an invitation to perform unless they were already booked, or occasionally, when someone was ill and they have never charged for playing.

Many events they have played for have been for benefits to help people with medical costs, to purchase of equipment for local responders or help people with other needs. Funds raised over the years amount to thousands of dollars of community help.

The Christian band loves what they do and often, when they play at a nursing home where some residents may not have spoken in some time, they see those same residents mouthing the words to the old hymns as they quietly "sing along" with the band. The band plays at four local nursing homes once a month. They also play from time to time at Lexington House, Odd Fellows, Kerr's Creek Fire House cake walks, Glasgow Rescue Group events, family reunions, church homecomings, and the Veterans Hospital in Salem.

The band believes that the way to keep going is to keep playing, keep smiling, and keep loving the Lord and singing the old Gospel songs.

Current band members are Ivan Branch (manager), Blane Reid, Cecil Conner, Armond "Hammer" Falgoust and Clara Brown. The band was originally managed by the late Buck Conner and the late Junior Earheart and Hottie Hatcher were musician friends that also played with the band and are missed.
