This yearâ€™s Annual Thanksgiving Show with Gary Ruley and Mule Train and CD Release Party will be held on Friday, November 26th at the Lexington Golf and Country Club. Due to the unfortunate fire at The Southern Inn, the Country Club will open its doors for this event. Everyone is welcome to attend the show, however, reservations are required for dinner. There will be seating and standing room also. These shows are always well attended and usually sell out.
This yearâ€™s performance by Mule Train starts at 8:15 p.m. - a musical treat that you will not want to miss. Ruleyâ€™s newest CD â€śThe Southern Inn and Out,â€ť a live performance, will be available for the first time at this event. As the 2009 winner of the Chamber of Commerce â€śGroup Arts/Entertainer of the Yearâ€ť award, Gary Ruley & Mule Train formulates a bluegrass, new grass and roots music ensemble, connecting generations of yesterday and today with inventive sounds of powerful acoustic music.
Ruley started honing his musical skills at a young age and has engaged in countless performances across the country. He has successfully released five CDs and has performed with internationally acclaimed rock violinist Ann Marie Calhoun and flat-picking guitar master/songwriter Larry Keel. Calhoun has played with Jethro Tull, Ringo Starr, Steve Vai and Dave Matthews. Ruley has also shared the stage with bluegrass legends Tony Rice, Vassar Clements and Mac Wiseman, to name a few.
For this show, Ruleyâ€™s acclaimed band members and guests include Danny Knicely (mandolin, fiddle), Will Lee (banjo), Nate Leath (fiddle), Brennan Gilmore and David Knicely (bass).
Danny Knicely is a fourth generation multi-instrumentalist from a Virginia family steeped in music. With years of experience as a professional musician touring worldwide, he has won many awards on mandolin, guitar and fiddle. He has recorded with McGraw Gap, Larry Keel, Corn Tornado and Purgatory Mountain, performing in such venues as Merlefest, Telluride, Floyd Fest, Birchmere, the Fillmore, and House of Blues, Louisiana.
Will Lee, founding member of the acclaimed McGraw Gap bluegrass band, Will has also toured extensively with Walkers Run, Larry Keel and Ruley. Following in his fatherâ€™s footsteps, Will's father, Ricky Lee, played with Ralph Stanley and The Clinch Mountain Boys.
Nate Leath is a well known fiddler, with jazz, rock, old-time , bluegrass-styleÂ andÂ adds a good blend of musical talent to the Mule Train. A great young talent that will be twin fiddling for this show with Danny.
Rounding out the group is David Knicely and Brennan Gilmore. David will be providing the solid acoustic bass work to thread together this dynamic group. He also has many years experience in performing and touring with McGraw Gap. Gilmore is founding member of Walkers Run and Borden Grant having toured much of the country and the Middle East, performing a wide array of music.
Gary Ruley & Mule Train are sure to provide the right amount of vocal expressiveness with hot licks to spare. Ruley performs a limited number of public shows, many of which are to sell-out crowds.
