Christy Harris was unanimously approved as the new principal of Kling Elementary School at the July 28th meeting of the Buena Vista School Board.

"She was a great candidate and I've really pleased to have her," said Buena Vista Schools Superintendent Rebecca Gates.

Harris graduated from Rockbridge County High School in 1996 and then received her BA in Psychology from Mary Baldwin College. While supporting herself as a real estate agent for Remax, Harris completed her MA in Teaching in January 2006 and then earned her Education Specialty in Leadership and Policy Studies from Virginia Tech.

Harris taught third and fourth grades at Fairfield Elementary School for three years and fourth grade at Central Elementary before becoming an interim Asst. Principal at RCHS last January.

"I've always had the goal to be an educational administrator," said Harris. "I love having contact with all the students and parents and helping teachers get the resources they need to be successful. I especially want to foster communication and good relationships with parents."

Harris' first day at Kling will be Thursday, August 4th and teachers will report on August 15th with the first day of school August 22nd.

"I'm nervous and excited," said Harris. "I especially want to work with the PTA to activities at Kling on a regular basis so that parents feel a part of the school.

Harris lives in Lexington and is married to J. B. Harris who works at VMI.
