Sabah's Day Declared In Lexington
Iraqi Citizens Receive Proclamation

Dr. Sabah Al-Jadooa and his wife, Shayma, both Iraqi citizens, were presented a Proclamation by City Manager Jon Ellestead on behalf of Mayor John W. Knapp and the Lexington City Council proclaiming July 20, 2006, as SABAH’s DAY.

The Al-Jadooa’s were visiting Lexington as guests of the International Headquarters of Sigma Nu Fraternity. Sigma Nu sponsored the Al-Jadooa’s journey from their home in Baghdad to the United States to make educational presentations at the Fraternity’s international convention held earlier this week in Indianapolis.

Dr. Sabah, a proponent for education in a Democratic Iraq, has spent the last few years engaged in the rebuilding of Iraq’s educational system. He has become affiliated with American firms, supported by USAID and the National Endowment for the Arts, which are working to effect wide-ranging reforms and improve the quality of basic education in Iraq. Dr. Sabah was initiated into Sigma Nu in 1952 while a student at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri. His wife, Shayma, is a retired teacher.
