Annual Auction to Help SVU   On Friday, October 20, the SVU Women’s Society will host their annual Silent Auction. The event will take place in the Ballroom of Southern Virginia University’s Main Hall, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Local businesses and private citizens donate items to be auctioned and all proceeds benefit the University. “We are anticipating an even larger selection this year,” said Ginger Lanier, Secretary for the SVU Women’s Society. Currently, the list of items to be auctioned includes: ·     Time-share Condominium in Utah, (1 week for assuming yearly maintenance fees, minimum bid applies) ·     Artwork (paintings, prints, crafts, folk art) ·     Pizza party by Dominos in Buena Vista (includes 5 large 1-topping pizzas) ·     Package of tickets for 2 to museums and tours in Gettysburg, PA ·     2 tickets to the American Frontier Culture Museum in Staunton ·     5 tickets to the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum in Winchester ·     2 tickets to Monticello outside of Charlottesville ·     2 tickets to the Charlottesville Ice Skating Park ·     2 tickets to the National D-Day Memorial with guided tour in Bedford ·     2 tickets to the O. Winston Link Museum (photography) in Roanoke ·     2 tickets to Bacon’s Castle in Surry ·     2 tickets to the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond ·     2 tickets to Nauticus, The National Maritime Center in Norfolk ·     $25.00 gift basket from Gourmetgiftbaskets.com ·     $15.00 gift certificate to G. Willaker’s restaurant in Lexington Bids will be accepted in $1 increments, and bidding will close at 2:00 pm. If a winner is present at the time the auction closes, s/he may pay for and take home the purchased item(s). If a winner is not present, s/he will be contacted to arrange a time to pick up the purchased item(s). The annual Silent Auction also showcases outstanding baked goods, which are available for sale.
