Central Elementary PTA Announces Reflections Winners

 
Nearly 150 students at Central Elementary School participated in the 2006-07 PTA arts Reflections Program in which students submitted work in the areas of literature, musical composition, photography and the visual arts. The theme of the program was “My Favorite Place,” and entries were judged by Emily Miller, literature; Rick and Lenny Bruno, visual arts; Jeanie Brown, photography; and Bill Badgett, musical composition.

Winners in the literature category in the second grade are Jamie McCormick, “Kids Place,”     1st place; Kayleigh Addington, “The 50th State,” 2nd place; and Gabrielle Majors, “Home,” 3rd place. In third grade, Ely Spencer, “Alaska,” 1st place; Teanna Potter, “Cuddling with My Mommy,” 2nd place; and Andrew Danas, “Beckley, West Virginia,” 3rd place. In fourth grade, Rebecca Torrence, “Where My Heart Runs Free,” 1st place; and Brianna Goodbar, “Snowshoe Mountain,” 2nd place. In fifth grade, Lacey Ruff, “The Beach,” 1st place; Cathy Kesler, “Great Smokey Mountains,” 2nd place; and Rachel Morris, “The Prince William County Fair,” 3rd place.

Winners in the visual arts category for kindergarten are Allison Thomas, “Alli and the Heffalumps,” 1st place; Samantha Niday, untitled, 2nd place; and Johnathan Mayo, “The Playground,” 3rd place. In first grade, Musa Kamara, “Liberty,” 1st place; Joseph Eversole, “The Science Museum,” 2nd place; and Emma Spencer, “Aunt Jenn’s Beach House,” 3rd place. In second grade, Patrick Godfrey, “The Beach,” 1st place; Olivia Tilson, “Watching Fireworks on the Dock,” 2nd place; and Ashley Torrence, “Home,” 3rd place. In third grade, Morgan Bond, untitled, 1st place; Kinzleigh Hill, “Peaceful Place,” 2nd place; and Conner McNeil, “A Pile of Leaves,” 3rd place. In fourth grade, Christopher Moore, “Sunrise on the Ocean,” 1st place; Matthew Peach, “The Beach Sunset,” 2nd place; and Rebecca Torrence, untitled, 3rd place. In fifth grade, Grace Bailey, “With Animals,” 1st place; William Cunningham, “Mom’s Place on the River,” 2nd place; and Caitlin Undercoffer, “Mountain Sunset,” 3rd place.

Winners in the photography category for first grade are Shane Kearney, “My Home,” 1st place. In second grade, Grace McDonald, “At the Sea,” 1st place; Grace McDonald, “My Pink Room!” 2nd place; and Olivia Tilson, “My Backyard,”      3rd place. In third grade, Graham McKemy, “Day Dreams,” 1st place; Teanna Potter, “My Backyard Under the Sunset,” 2nd place; and Kelsia Reid, “My Playhouse,” 3rd place. In fourth grade, Owen Lovell, “The Couch,” 1st place. In fifth grade, Jordan Drake, “Fran’s Chair,” 1st place; Michael Washburn, “Home,”      2nd place; and Julia Hotinger, “Home,” 3rd place.

The winner in the musical composition category for third grade is John Drahos, “Pillows in the Caymans,” 1st place.
