The Sayre Factory Store and Gift Shop held a grand opening and ribbon cutting on Saturday, March 17 to celebrate the addition of a wonderful variety of vintage gift items, food items, decorative housewares, toys and jewelry to the shelves of the historic century old general store building in Buena Vista.

"Since we opened in Buena Vista in 2004, people have been coming through the door looking for the general store, so we decided to expand our offerings to meet their expectations," said owner Mary Sayre at the open house. "We are excited to carry on the general store tradition."

The open house included samples of food items, cotton candy and popcorn, and traditional music by local musical legend Rooster Ruley and Ruckus. 3WZ was also there, broadcasting during the event. Unfortunately, the windy day prevented the blow-up from being inflated for kids to play in.

Items that now occupy the vintage general store shelves include Stonewall Kitchen, Rabbit Creek and Gourmet Village specialty food items, Channel Craft Vintage Toys and Games, Civil War History items, decorative housewares, greeting cards, and jewelry.

The store continues to carry overruns, apparel and school spirit items (including Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, Southern Virginia University, West Virginia University, Parry McCluer High School and Rockbridge County High School). Custom engraved trophies, embroidery and screen print services are also offered as well as custom embellishment.

The store is located at 2252 Beech Avenue in Buena Vista, Virginia and still has the original interior including shelves for dry goods, the tin ceiling and colored glass windows.

Hours are Monday through Friday 10 - 5:30 and Saturday 10 - 4 p.m. The store manager is Kali McLeod.
